Hi, I’m Lisa!

I started candle making during the Covid-19 pandemic because:
1) I am obsessed with candles
2) Just about everything around us was shut down
3) Did I mention that I am obsessed with candles?

As a family, we always light candles. Cooking, cleaning, reading, working, relaxing - you name it! I quickly realized that I burn candles all the time and was unknowingly exposing our family to so many toxins. It was time for a change!

Fast forward to 2022. After more than a year of testing, researching and planning, we officially launched Bougie by Nature! All of our candles are toxin, phthalate and paraben-free. We aim for our candles to be a warm, clean, welcomed addition to your home and not an overpowering, unhealthy distraction. Providing you with high quality products is really important to us, so we continue to do countless hours of research and tests before the candles arrive in your home.

So why Bougie by Nature? Surprisingly, the name sprouted from a comment that my 7-year-old niece made about my new Bernedoodle puppy (shown in the picture). I Googled the term “bougie” and found that it actually translates to “candle” in French. So, why not feel bougie about clean burning candles?

Last but not least — we are an AAPI, women-owned, small business based out of the Pacific Northwest (just outside of Seattle, Washington). Since our launch, we participated in several community events including farmer’s markets and local pop ups. These events are our favorite; we LOVE meeting and giving back to our local communities (being post-pandemic makes it that much sweeter)!
